The Holidays' Most Wanted Games

Phew. Man, today is surely a truly snowstormy day for us in our areas, which makes our roads really difficult to get through. And as of this writing, it continues on at the moment. But that snowstorm didn't stopped me from getting the two most wanted Virtual Console games that i've been waiting for quite a while now. So, i've braved that snowstorm to go to my mall and to download these two new games that i'll be explaining right now.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (Famicom Disk System, Japan Only, 1986): Now, i have it admit that this is one title i've long been waiting to have as a single game and not being included as bonus games or anything else. This stand alone title was normally supposed to be released here in North America, but since Nintendo of America hated the one game that would normally be known as Super Mario Bros. 2 (it was called as such in Japan), they decided to ditch that version and go with remaking the Doki Doki Panic game, but with Mario characters in it instead, making that one their Super Mario 2 for North American and European players to play with instead of the one that Japan considered to be the game that would be for Super Players. My guess would be that Nintendo of America would not be the super players that they would say that they would be... though that would be pushing it a little too much in saying that. Luckily now, this import is now available and we can finally prove to ourselves that we truly ARE super players. And with the restore points, things will be a little easier on ourselves now too, despite having save files within the game and all that. But anyway, another thing that would be weird would be that i once played that game, but on a pirated cart, as i'm realizing that now, that i've found in an old video rental place. And this game would prove to be too hard to handle for me... though luckily, i practiced long enough in the Super Mario All-Stars games on my Super NES and on my Wii. Now, not only this is the legitimate copy and not a pirated version, but this is THE Super Mario game i wanted to get for a long time. Wish me luck, folks... as i will not be using warp zones in that one, since warp zones can either send Mario or Luigi forward or backwards. Oh, and this was the game that Poison Mushrooms would be making their debut... though i've always wondered how did those came to be. Did Bowser invented some kind of formula to create those vile funguses or something? Guess we'll never know.

Mega Man (NES, 1987): Ahh, a game that i once didn't own, until i purchased a copy of it at a used game store, thus i own the NES cart of the game. But regardless, this is the game where it all started for the Mega Man legacy, especially in having Mega Man battle the diabolical Dr. Wily and his robotic menaces, though for the six robot masters, they were once Dr. Light's creations (and yes, the manual of the Virtual Console had retained the mispelling of Dr. Light's name). It was also the game where the paper-rock-scissors formula of battling the robot masters would be making its debut as well, as defeating one robot with the weakness of another would make things easier for future battles to come as the game progresses. Needless to say, this game had good critics, even though it would be the next two chapters of the classic series that would be more acclaimed than the first. Also, due to the bad box art of the game box of the game back in the late 80s, we kinda asked ourselves why Capcom had to whip up something that way too fast for the release of the North American version of Mega Man. Meh, i guess we'll never know for sure, even though the first game is very good. And it was the only Mega Man game to keep the score points in that one. Others would not be bringing that one back... well, except for Mega Man Powered Up on the PSP.

Anyway, now i got those two games and i'll be staying home for the time being that the snowstorm goes on.
