Revenge of the Pac

Description

To celebrate Pac-Man's inclusion in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game on both the Wii U and the 3DS, i've downloaded not only the two games that was seen in the Wii U's eShop, but i also downloaded a long awaited sequel of one game that i'm sure someone here will love seeing.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge (NES, 1990): Now, this is one game i've seen in the arcades in my bowling alley years ago... although i didn't play that one in the arcades. However, i did play the NES version of it... yep, you guessed it, as one of the pirated games in my TV Plug-In and Play multi-game controller. Heh, you thought i was gonna say my pirated multi-cart, eh? Well no, that's not the case. Anyway, i did play the, well... Famicom version in that controller... and actually BEAT that game, even though i had to continue many times before reaching the end. Now downloaded in my 3DS, i won't need to use continues, due to the restore points in that one, like many other NES games. Oh, and by the way, i know the title screen says that this game is presented by Acclaim Entertainment, but since the company went bankrupt long ago, this game is now released by Aksys Games. So, don't be fooled by the former company name that presents this one, folks. Also, the NES take of that game has a bit of lighter tone of the ending in mind, where (spoiler alert) Marion (or Marian, whichever it is) gets to be ressurected after beating the final boss, while she stays dead in the ending of the arcade version of that one. Personally, i'm kinda split between which ending is the real one for Double Dragon 2, folks.

Pac-Land (Famicom, 1985, Japan Only): Played it on the pirated multi-cart, yep. Unlike the previous game i just talked about, i did played that one in that pirated cart, although i also played the legal arcade version in my Namco Museum Volume 4 disc on my Playstation. Anyway, just by listening to the music of that game kinda reminds me of the 80s Pac-Man cartoon from Hanna Barbera that i also watched as a kid. Regardless, i'm not sure which of the two got inspired by who here, but one thing surely is constant about this game. And that's Pac-Man having to deliver a small fairy back to the mother fairy in Fairy Land, to which he then heads back to his home, using the unlimited jump shoes that the mother fairy gives him. But knowing the ghosts, they'll do whatever they can to make Pac-Man's mission a failure, especially the purple ghost known as Sue. The timer is mostly to keep her at bay, but if the timer reaches zero, Sue will then chase Pac-Man at full speed. Well, anyway, it's nice to finally see this game as a legal one on a Nintendo console.

Pac-Man Collection (Game Boy Advance, 2001): I actually still own the physical Game Boy Advance cart, but in any case, when the handheld was launched, this compilation of Pac-Man games came along, in addition of the Game Boy Advance take of Namco Museum. But as the name of this compilation pretty much suggests, this one contains nothing but Pac-Man games. Four to be exact: Pac-Man, Pac-Man Arrangement, Pac-Mania and Pac-Attack are the Pac-Man games that you can play with, even though just by playing them in GBA format, you can tell that they kinda squeezed up a bit of of the screen action for that one. But anyway, i'm keeping that one... or i can still go back on playing the Game Boy Advance cart, though the difference between the download version of the game and the actual cart is that the cart doesn't save high scores... while using the restore points will allow you to get your high scores back in case you accidently reset the game to its default state. Kinda cool if you ask me, no?

My friend and I use to frequently play Double Dragon II.  Always amusing to see enemies fly after getting hit with the spinning kick.

As for Pac-Man, there are sooooo many variants of that game.  In the PC, there was a game called "CD-Man".
